We are moving and I'm losing my mind

Our house is on the market.
Yep, that is why I cannot regularly update this blog to save my life.  We are relocating to Minnesota as soon as our house sells, and in the meantime I'm on my own with Ashford while Shaun is working in MN all week.  A big promotion was too good to pass up, so I am sadly leaving my beloved house and looking for a new dump to restore in a new state!  I'm also going to be unemployed for the first time since I was 14!  Good times.  We did a lot more little projects inside the house, so I'll be sharing those soon. Wish us luck with the sale, please.  The Racine market is the pits.

  1. OMG Sara! Congratulations on Shaun's promotion..

You've done a lot of work on this house. You can do it in the next one too... and now you have all that experience.

Really you must be tearing your hair out ... good luck on the house hunt.

  2. Trying to keep the house clean for showings while working full time, doing the daycare run, and having a...SPIRITED...toddler is making me age rapidly! Thanks for the good luck, I'm hopeful we will find something good.

  3. Congratulations on the big move! Moving is so stressful. We just moved from Boston to Chicago and it was rough, but we made it through. You guys will too. Can't wait to see the new house you pick out and fix up.

  13. Good luck with the move! I can't believe any promotion would be good enough to leave behind a private dressing room. ;) Seriously, just put THAT on the listing page and it'll get snapped up!

  19. Exciting! House selling wishes for you!

I feel your pain. We were trying to keep ours clean for showings with a 3 year old and a 5 month old while working from home. NOT FUN!

I'd love to see where you end up!

  21. Hey all, thanks so much for the comments! We are looking in the Burnsville area, and all surrounding cities. His 'home store' will be the Burnsville TJ Maxx. We are open to all areas around 25 minutes from there, so give me your suggestions! Not sure about being in the city because we'd really like a big yard and some privacy from neighbors this time around. We are excited!

  27. I shop the Bville TJ Maxx all the time.

There are some great communities in the area. I highly recommend Northfield. The commute to Bville is pretty easy. Small town with big amenities due to the 2 private liberal arts colleges in town. Lots of small shops but there is still Target and 2 regular grocery stores along with a really nice Natural Food Co-op. There is always something going on. You can definitely find a house with privacy and even a bit acreage if that interests you. There a ton of older well kept homes as well. Feel free to contact me if you want to know more.

  29. yay! Look in savage/prior lake/shakopee area. Lots of nice houses out that way and good schools. I work in Eagan and many of my coworkers live there and have good things to say about it. I do have to throw in a plug for St. Paul- easy to get anywhere and everywhere, you drive opposite of traffic during rush hr, large number of schools to pick from including public, private, immersion, etc, and believe it or not but there are areas that have large lots and you would never think you were in the city. Lots of old beautiful old houses here that you cannot find in the burbs. Can you tell I love my city!?

  31. That is big news!!! Your house is so amazing tho, and you've completely transformed it, so I'm sure some lucky duck will scoop it up quickly! congrats on the promotion, and enjoy your down time while it lasts!

  32. Best wishes with the sale. We sold our home in Delaware last year to move across town to a bigger place. We took a loss, but the stress was worth it. When our house was on the market we splurged in a cleaning lady (every other week) and we never refused a showing, despite the fact that we had a 7 month-old at the time. The first offer came in 30 days and we took it.

  33. I cannot say enough good things about Northfield. It is about 20 minutes south of Burnsville. The town has so many amenities for a town of its size due to two private liberal arts colleges. The downtown area is wonderful with its variety of shops and restaurants.

Northfield has wonderful public schools, 2 charter schools, and a fantastic private school.

Home prices are reasonable and there is definitely the possibility of getting a house with a larger more private lot.

And there are some beautiful older homes that have been restored along with some that need some TLC.

  34. Congrats on Shaun's promotion!! Selling a house is never easy. But selling a house, moving out of state, & all while wrangling a toddler?!? (I just helped matters didn't I.) I'm so excited for this next chapter in your lives but am sad to see this beautiful house go (you made it so, you know). Sorry too much Dr. Seuss these days.

    xoxo
