House is sold

We have an accepted offer on our house!  This actually happened a few weeks ago, but I wanted to make sure the inspection went ok (it did) and the appraisal came back approved (it did) before we posted the news.  With that said, we are both horrified and happy because it means we have to leave our beautiful house, but it also means we never have to clean it for a showing again!
This is Ashford skipping down our beautiful walkway because he doesn't have to put his toys away any more.  (Just kidding, he totally does.)  So, the dirty details....we sold for 194,900 and are paying 1.5k of the buyers closing costs after a wee negotiation.  We are THRILLED that a family with a daughter about the same age as Ash bought our house.  They love the place and I couldn't be happier.  Our official closing date is April 25th and because of that, we did go to MN last week to look at houses.
The trip didn't go very well, meaning we didn't find a place to live.  Now I am a little stuck because I have two weeks left of work and cannot go look at houses again until after the 11th, unless we drive up this weekend.  It's very upsetting to see houses come on the market and be sold in 1 DAY.  Yes, that happens.  That market is hotter than the mess in our attic.  It was especially depressing when we came back to our house and realized how much better it was than anything we looked at.  I'm a little stressed, but we're working out a plan for temporary housing.  In the meantime, I'm taking lots of photos around the house and hoping to capture every detail, the light, the space, everything.  I set my camera on our dresser and pulled out the remote last Sunday morning, with totally fun results!
As you can see, Shaun was not interested in participating.  But this is a classic weekend, one parent wrangling the kid while the other desperately tries to sleep in.
I'm so happy I took the time to do this, and I'm trying to find other places around the house to stage little photo shoots to remember moments like this.
I can't believe we only have a few weeks left.

  4. CONGRATS!!! I got so excited for you when I saw the blog title, bah!!! Although I know it will be sad to leave because this was your first home as a family. I know I'll totally feel the same way when we eventually move from our house. I like to think I won't bawl like a tiny baby, but I know I will.

Good for you for taking out the camera with a remote. There aren't enough pics of us moms with our kiddos, and those pics are awesome. Especially the last one. You need to print that out and frame it.

Congrats on the new adventure, I'm so excited for you guys!

  5. Congrats on selling Sara! You must have a lot of great memories tied up in that house. It's a great idea to take photos to remember them. I hope you find a new place to live that you love as much as this place! Good luck!

  6. Congrats!!! We had to go through the same thing -- once we sold ours, finding another was a whole new beast. We lost one we'd put an offer on to a competing offer, and it was just REALLY hard to get used to the idea of having to spend 100K more on a house that wasn't as nice as our last.

We didn't have the means to do temp housing, so if you do, I definitely think that's the best way to go. I love the house we ended up with (it's in a great area), but it needs a ton of work and we probably could've done better given a bit more time. Try not to stress too much! The worst part is over -- yay!!!

  8. Congrats!!! And thank goodness for no more showings and frantic cleanings. Good luck with the house hunt. The market around here has definitely changed and things are moving quickly, BUT I definitely believe it'll work out when you find the right house. Welcome to MN!

  10. Congratulations on your sale!!! All your absolutely amazing hard work has paid off - I don't know what you purchased the home for but with all your work you did I hope you are over the moon with the sale price!!!

I wish you nothing but the best of luck with the house hunt. My hubby and I are in the midst of our first home purchase... it's stressful. Especially for two people who have no reno experience - your blog is going to come in really handy.

My father is pushing for something that's already done, and I think we're looking for something we can grow into and change as we want - not a full renovation obviously. Your blog is going to be my go to so please keep it going. I look forward to seeing more adventures with your family in a new area, AND a new home. I'm keeping you kids in my thoughts!!! ox

  13. so happy for you guys!! I was just wondering how the sale was going...
we have our beloved house on the market by owner, first and only showing loved it but we couldn't come to an agreement. The plan is to put it on the MLS Friday. I feel your pain, every house we see is horrible. I'm scared but trying to be excited.

  15. Yay for your guys and I'm happy you're figuring out temp housing. Rushing into buying a house could force something, rather than finding what you really want to find. It'll work out the way it's supposed to I'm sure! Great pics and please keep us posted...

  16. I am obsessed with the pictures of your family in bed. Oh my gosh, obsessed.

So so so so happy for you for selling your house. What a bittersweet relief! And I know you'll find something amazing. Know it!

  17. Thanks, everyone! Luckily, Shaun's relocation package covers all the packing and moving, and storage of our stuff until we find a house. We just have to pack the clothes and things we need in temp housing. They also give us a lump sum for the temp housing, but it will be a challenge to find a decent place that allows the cats! Ugh, those cats...at least they aren't big dogs.

  18. Congrats!! SO happy for you that you finally got a buyer! I was wondering how it had been going. Do your buyers know of your blog? It would be cool to see all the before and afters.

  19. Love your sweet little family photos- I'm sure it is totally bittersweet to leave this beautiful home that you have poured your heart and soul into...but think of all of the wonderful adventures that await you on the next leg of your journey?! It will all come together- but until then- just hang tight. xoxo

  20. Congratulations, best feeling in the world to have your house off the market. Can leave a dish in the sink once again!! How familiar are you guys with the areas in which you're looking at homes? I'd almost say it's a blessing in disguise if you have to rent for a bit -- make sure you get the home you want in the area you want. (I know if we had bought right away moving to our city, we'd have bought in a totally wrong part of town for us!!).

  22. The market is CRAZY right now!! We put our house on the market as a joke on a Saturday and we got an accepted offer on Sunday.... You're house is beautiful so I'm not shocked that someone snatched it up! It is definitely a bitter sweet thing to sell a home that you have fallen in love with! I wish you all the luck on your new house!
