Russet Street Hoarders

Aren't you just astounded by that show?  We've definitely been feeling like hoarders throughout our floor refinish.  But after having our living and dining rooms look like this for the last two weeks:
Things are slowly getting back to normal.  The guest bed mattress has moved back into it's room.  Most of the clean laundry has been moved back upstairs, and the dirty laundry has been washed put into the laundry room until further notice.  However, since oil-based poly can take up to 30 days to fully cure, we aren't putting any of the furniture back just yet.  So, we are climbing over stuff for awhile longer.  The guest room is holding the worst of the mess...
And our room still looks a lot like this:
Just makes you want to lounge in bed, doesn't it?  I really want to move all the dressing room furniture and clothes back, but we're going to wait at least two weeks after the last coat, or April 11th to move the dresser and bookcases back in there.  The rugs won't go back in the rooms until four weeks after, April 25th.  This is the price we pay for using the oil-based poly, but it's worth it to see the rich, warm color our floors have.  Until this Sunday, we're going to enjoy being a little bit lazier and messier than usual...well, I'm going to enjoy it!  Tell me, are you a neat freak or a *little* messy like me?

  1. Oh, I'm a little messy! I wish I wasn't though. I can't seem to cook without making the kitchen a total disaster area--or even get dressed for that matter. I feel like I haven't tried unless I can see the evidence scattered around me. I give the house a good cleaning once a week and vow that I will be better and it starts all over again, haha! My husband is just as bad. SIGH!

But on the other hand, renovation chaos is just not fun! I'm looking at your pictures and I'm feeling some anxiety creeping in. I can't breath!

  2. And once again we are living parallel lives! The hoarding jokes have been flying around here too as we refinish the dining room and bedroom floors. I thought about posting the proof but I'm not brave enough! Love this post though!

  3. I get sooo anxious when our house is a "big" mess... I think it drives B nuts when I go on my cleaning frenzies. I'm learning to cool down a bit though... I have to realize mess is something that comes with DIY renos... I'm getting there ;)

  4. I so hear you! Our wallpaper debacle in the guest bathroom left a HUGE mess that stuck around for a little bit while we figured out what to do next. And don't you just hate that feeling when a part of your house turns into a disaster zone and it's completely disorganized?

Thankfully, you have some fabulous retreats to escape to in the rest of the house and it will all truly be worth it in the end!

  5. I love your honesty! Plus, there's no way to tear apart a house without it LOOKING like you tore apart a house. But the end result is always worth it.

After two years I've just accepted the fact that a renovators life will always be a little messy. Like our bathroom right now....

  6. That's not hoarding!

I think I'm like most - when I'm working on something all bets are off- and I'll make as big a mess as needed to finish the job.

But then, when everything is sanded, or planted, or painted, I clean, clean, clean until it's perfect!

  7. Oh, I'm definitely messy. The weird part is the mess then gives me anxiety, and I have to clean it. It's a really strange dynamic. Moving/rearranging stresses me out so much, because nothing is in the right spot. eep! It'd be worth it though for beautiful floors like yours!

  8. It has to get worse before it gets better! I know exactly how you feel. You can do it! We are currently living amongst chaos and messiness right now too, due to our kitchen countertop project. I get anxious to clean and put everything back into the kitchen everytime I see it... but that's sort of hard when you don't really have any countertops. So I settle for taking deep breaths and trying not to look at all the mess, haha.

  9. I have tendencies of a neat freak. However, the husband, kids and pets make a completely tidy home pretty darn impossible. Well, for me anyway. The messies out number the neat freaks.

  12. I am definitely messy. When I was a kid my room looked like this all the time. I actually went thru a period where I slept on the floor just so I wouldn't have to clean all the crap off my bed. Klassy, I know. Luckily Mister keeps me in check now. He would never stand for a mess, he even hates dust and dog hair! Who knew... lol

  13. I'm a little messy but I LOVE clean spaces. It won't be long before I give in and hire a maid!

We wanted to put in our wooden floors ASAP after moving in so we wouldn't have to move furniture around the house and whatnot but seems we have to wait one more year... So am concerned about where to put all our furniture once we finally do it!

  14. OMG that is the thing with DIY isn't it ... when you do one room it seems to overflow.

I get a little jittery when the house is so disorganized ... I let clutter accumulate to the highest degree I can stand then race around putting everything away. I'm not a neat or clean freak ... but clutter bothers me.

  15. This must be driving you crazy! It will be so worth it, though. Can't wait to see everything back in place on those gorgeous floors. Hang in there~

  16. Living in a mess is probably my least favorite part of projects. It just stresses me out. But your gorg floors will so worth it in the end!

  17. The cat looks very content. Probably wonders why you didn't put a mattress in the middle of the living room before. It's the ultimate in cat decorating tips!
