This happened

The best day of my kitchen renovation to date.  Our new oak floors were installed!  And I couldn't be more sure that we made the right choice.  The cost was completely worth it.
Ok, the new flooring was installed yesterday...
But today I got the thrill of my life when I saw our entire dining room sanded down to one uniform floor with the kitchen.  I almost cried.
The dining room floor was in rough shape, there were gouges, old finish and waxes bubbled up all over, and Max peed in one part of the floor.  He hasn't done it again, but it left a dark stain that (thankfully) got sanded out just fine.
The transition from old to new is virtually seamless.  Our floor guy is good at life.
Today we okayed the new stain (to match the living room we refinished 3 years ago) and it was applied this afternoon.
I can't wait to peek in my kitchen windows and take floor paparazzi pics tomorrow morning!  And for all the careful mommies out there, the stain fumes aren't strong and we will be gone this weekend when the poly coats go on.  Safety first!

  3. Hey there, not sure if I've commented before :S but wanted to say congrats on the baby news and you will LOVE your new floors. After 6 years of harassing the hubs he finally agreed to get our beat-up birch floors done professionally. We just got 'em done a few weeks ago and are loving them.

Can't wait to see how yours look all stained and purty-like. :)

  4. Looks awesome so far! I have always wondered if skipping sushi and beer or the DIY stuff would be the harder part of being pregnant. :)

  16. Looks sooo good! We're installing wood floors currently--a little different than yours, as ours are a pre-finished floating engineered hardwood, but I know the feeling you get when you see the new surface in place; pure joy!

  17. Question- Was it a concious decision to have the floors run perpendicular to each other? I'm gathering info for when we do our floors so I'm just curious. Thanks,

  20. How awesome is that! It will definitely be worth the investment. It is going to look awesome!

  21. Marge: The dining and living room floors were already perpendicular. I suppose they did it that way when the house was built to create some separation between the rooms. Usually, you run the floor boards across (not parallel with) the floor joists for strength.

  22. Pretty pretty pretty. We did laminate in this house which we've been enjoying ok, but our next house will definitely have gorgeous wood floors like yours. And kudos for being a cautious mama! I'm probably going to have to rethink a lot of my careless habits when I enter that stage of life.
