Mmmm cupcakes

My first wedding post!  Even before we got engaged, I'd dreamed of a cupcake table instead of wedding cake for our reception.  After researching bakeries in Milwaukee, one stood out with reasonable prices and lots of beautiful looking cupcakes...so I asked if we could pick up a few sample cupcakes from Erica at Classy Girl Cupcakes.   She was more than accommodating, and we came home with four goodies!
Er, there was four, but we devoured the 'white cake with buttercream frosting' cuppie in the car.  Seriously, we couldn't wait!  The others included a dark chocolate with oreo frosting, a red velvet w/cream cheese frosting, and carrot cake also w/cream cheese frosting.
They were all yummy, but we chose the white cake and red velvet for our two flavors.  Our colors are aqua and red, so I figured the red velvet would look great on the table and would satisfy the chocolate lovers.  The white cake was delicious and a no-brainer.  Now that we've signed a contract (at $1.50 each in case you're curious), I have to find some vintage cake/cupcake stands for our dessert table.  I found some pretty inspiration online:
These are cake stands stacked:
And of course, there are the creative folks who make their own stands using vases and vintage plates, like this cute feature on Apartment Therapy:
Or this simple glass stand on How Does She?
Do you have any cupcake wedding porn?  Ideas?  Pictures from your own cupcake table?  Please, send those links my way!!

  2. YAY for wedding posts!! Can't wait for more juicy details.

I love the cupcake idea. We had a regular tiered cake at our wedding -- which was beautiful -- but I kinda wish I would've done cupcakes! That vintage DIY stand is really cool and has personality -- you could totally pull something like that off.

On the other hand, a classic white stand will allow the cupcakes to be the main attraction.

  3. and now i want a cupcake...

i went to a wedding recently that had cupcakes - the bride's father had made a giant cupcake stand out of mdf, and then they painted it. it looked nice, but it almost just looked like a cake again, esp. since they had it so full of cupcakes.

have you thought about putting the cupcakes on each table?

  5. I love that DIY cupcake stand featured on AT! I've totally seen candle holders like that at HomeGoods down here recently, and some at thrift stores, too. I vote going that route, I think coordinating but not matchy-matchy cupcake stands would be awesome!

  11. congrats! My husband and I had cupcakes at our reception too. Cupcakes are so fun and a great way to save money! We hired a baker who made the cupcakes and set them up on her own stand. I'd probably want to do something more creative now. I love that simple glass stand.

Here is the link to our wedding blog post, it was 4 years ago!

  13. If I could, I would eat a cupcake everyday....of course then my fingers would be too pudgey to post comments on blogs so, probably not a good idea.

We had cupcakes at our wedding! They were such a hit, guests still mention them (that and the dance-off at the end of the night). I'm so excited for you!!

I LOVE the look of classic white cakestands/pedestals.....would make the cupcakes pop w/ color. Ooh what about those filligree cupcake wrappers? Maybe not for every cupcake, but maybe every other one?

  16. I cannot believe that I didn't have cupcakes at my wedding last year. I am...after all...obsessed! Love this idea for your wedding. and I personally love the make-your-own idea. You can find random, beautiful plates at thrift shops or places like homegoods and then make sure it really fits your color scheme. Can't wait to see how it turns out :)

  18. Those look delicious! We did a small cake and an ice cream bar at our wedding. I love the idea of cupcakes, too. So many things you can do with them!

One, is you could do little toppers with quotes like I sell in my shop, http://www.etsy.com/shop/tearinguphouses. Totally not trying to plug! You could make them yourself or with friends. Even better if you personalize them.

  19. Back in the late 1800's when I got married (okay, fine, it was 1990), cupcakes were not a classy confection, but I did DIY my cake.

I would totally go with HowDoesShe style towers all in aqua with eclectic mixes.

  20. We had Crumbs cupcakes at our wedding and we loved it! Having cupcakes instead of a cake is so chic, and cost effective. We did a tier of cupcakes and it looked beautiful! We also had a make your own sundae bar...I can definitely send you pictures if you would like to see!

  21. Yay wedding posts!!! As I'm getting married in 4 days these speak to me ;-)

Those cupcakes look sooo good! We're not doing cupcakes, but I've seen them done on a DIY stand before and it was gorgeous. They also had an en-suite candy bar (all on mix-matched dishes/DIY stands) it was adorable AND delicious. Can't wait to see what you do!

  22. I did cupcakes, arranged on homemade cake stands of varying heights. I used glass glue to glue together an upside down sundae cup & other assorted stemware to cut glass plates - all bought at Goodwill, washed, and re-donated after the wedding. It was so easy, cost next to nothing, and looked fabulous. (Flavors: carrot cake, Meyer lemon & raspberry, and german chocolate.)
