The painting never ends

So, I'm still painting the brown room.  The next thing I had to tackle was the closet.  I believe this room will have more storage than any other room in the world.  A 12-foot wall of bookcases and cabinets, a built-in desk with tons of drawers, and this guy:
As you can see, it's yellowed and chock-full of crapola.  The other side, too...
For shame!  There is a jammed shredder in here that hasn't worked for years!  And an entire box of colorful file folders that I have no hope of ever using up in my lifetime!  That black strap?  It's a carrier for my yoga mat that is only used to cushion my knees while painting on the floor!

It took me a little while to clean it all out, even longer to prime every inch of the inside.  Believe me, there is a lot of junk that will not be making it's way back into this closet.  And...this picture was BEFORE the primer, just so we're clear.
I've been painting the shelves, trim and doors the same white as the bookcases, and the closet walls the same pale blue as the ceiling.  It's looking much better now!  Is it weird to spend hours painting a closet that no one will ever see?  Maybe.

  1. Not weird at all! Did you see that pantry that was going around a few months ago, she did a whole mess of awesomeness. It would make me smile just getting some cereal. I need to dig it up and send you the link.

  2. Not weird at all! I'm right there with you. I have one closet left to paint in my place. You've inspired me to get it done!

  3. Maybe a little weird, but I have plans for all the closets in my house so at least you're not alone.

  4. Nope, ya gotta do it right. I dislike doing those projects. After those shoe cabinets are done, I have to work on the office/junk room.

I'm already starting to twitch slightly.

  7. I have the exact same thoughts every time I paint a closet. But it really DOES make such a huge difference in how you treat it!

But I have to say, I hate you just a little bit for your big, beautiful closets. I may send a shipment of stuff to your house to be stored one of these days.

  8. Can I just say that I'm INSANELY jealous of all the storage you have in your house!?! I'm having a major case of closet envy right now. And I just know that envy is going to grow once I see your after--your closet makeovers always inspire me. Go on with your crazy, closet painting self! We love you for it! :)

  10. I don't think this is wierd at all. Our upstairs closet has been half-finished for weeks. I have no excuse. I'm just too spazzy to stick to one project. ;)

  11. Yeah but you will smile every time you open it. And hopefully that will make it all worth while. Well almost.....
