Ready for your junk

Ok, this is not the most exciting project, but you're getting it anyway because it's my blog and I do what I want to.  Last weekend I was doing a lot of work in the guest room closet.  It was really hot.  I was annoyed and tired, but I knew it was now or never.  I appreciate when people tell me I should have my hubby sand, prime and paint things now, but my perfectionism doesn't care that I'm pregnant.  So I did it.  I did make him rip out all the carpet, though.  The closet in this room had lots of water damage and yellowed trim.
Hello, lost Victoria's Secret slipper!  Now, where is the other one?  So sorry for the terrible pics, this closet is a small lightless hole.  And it's been this way since we moved in 4 years ago.  Inside, it was even nastier.
Lots of plaster was falling away and it was just a flaky, terrible mess.  The floor under the carpet is almost black with old damage.  I did make Shaun scrape the worst of it, use some joint compound to spackle the walls smoother, then sand the next day.  I realize that is the cheater way to fix crumbling plaster, but when you're ready to deliver a baby, you're just trying to GET IT DONE.  While waiting for the walls to dry I got busy with all the trim in the closet, using Behr Ultra Pure White in satin, our go-to trim paint.
And finally, I painted the walls with Behr Antique White, which is in all our hallways and is a lighter color than the walls in this room.  This was really fun to do with my belly since the closet is barely wider than a hanger!
I neglected to take a pic of the inside to show you how nicely the damaged walls turned out, because that is where I immediately shoved some suits and dress shirts that have no hope of fitting into I don't currently wear.  Just trust me, it looks nice.  I added back some accessories to make it easy for regular guests (like my in-laws) to store junk, or clothes, whatever.
In other news, my due date was yesterday and I am not dilated or thinned at all.  My cervix apparently doesn't know how this thing works.  I am now scheduled to be induced Monday night and I'm desperately hoping to avoid that!  Here I am on D-day, other than some extra pressure 'down there' I'm feeling really good.
My BP is great, baby's heartbeat is great, no swelling, no weight gain, no issues.  I started my maternity leave from work today to finish everything around the house and be completely ready, hopefully that and walking a lot will get things going naturally.  Wish me luck, and if you were ever induced without dilating first, I'd love to hear your story!  To me it sounds like a very long labor that my body just isn't ready for, but my doctor is insisting it's the right decision.  Blah.

  1. Ooh, I once wrote a blog post and said I was feeling some pressure "down there"...15 hours later, I had a baby ;)

Hope things get moving for you soon. Best wishes!

  2. I'll be thinking about you. Maybe if you just rest the baby will be like woah what's going on? And then decide to move it. Best wishes.

  3. My water broke before I ever had a single contraction, so you never know when things will happen.

But the important thing is that you feel you're making the right choice, you can always tell the doctor NO if you'd rather wait and see what happens naturally. With my daughter I had to constantly tell my doctors (who are no longer my doctors), that there was no way I was inducing before I was ready.

    Good luck!

  4. I am throwing this in, Dr. Alexander is my Doc and I adore him. Seriously. With my first I went 4 days past due and went into labor all by myself. Unfortunately the baby was 11 lbs 15 oz so I never made it past 8 cm before a c-section. Second time around I was set on avoiding a c-section. Due date came and not dropped, not dilated, not thinned...nothing! Scheduled c-section for the following day since we couldn't afford to repeat labor/delivery/complications. Either way, two healthy babies and a healthy mom so in the end I guess all is good, but I feel ya. Sending labor vibes your way.

  5. I was induced with my third boy, only dilated to a 1 and was not effaced AT ALL! The pitocin really isn't that bad; they increase the drip every twenty minutes and yes the contrations are a lot stronger but not totally unbearable...especially if you request an epidural.
They started my drip at 8am, I got my epidural at 10:30 and baby was born at 12:25. :):):) good luck!!!

  6. My sister was induced at 11am and had her baby at 6pm. She was on pit, but nothing was happening until they broke her water. Two hours later she was at 10cm, and after like 10 minutes of pushing she had her baby. Nice, huh? That said, in our family, once your water breaks, your baby COMES, and comes fast. I know that not nearly everyone is so lucky.
I still think induction stinks. But I had my baby at a birth center with midwives, so maybe I'm biased. I guess I just think that most people have no idea when they really conceived, so I think "Due Dates" should really be called "Guess Dates." I was five days "over do," by the way, and I knew the exact day I ovulated because I was charting. So go figure.
Anywayzzz... I hope that should you not go into labor before Monday, and have to be induced, you have an awesome birth like my sister (I'm still jealous of her birth story, even though my own wasn't really that bad).

  8. I have two sons and had to be induced 2 weeks early both times due to obstetric cholestasis. I lived in the UK at the time and the induction method was gel on the cervix. With my first baby it was one dose of gel at night, labour started in the early hours of the morning, 6.5 hours of labour (no epidural). With my second baby it was one dose of gel at night, labour started early the next morning, 3 hours of labour (no epidural). So it's not always scary! All the best, hope it goes well.

  9. I was induced because my water had broken and I didn't know (???) and the whole labour/delivery was only four hours start to finish.

So, there is hope. Wishing you the best of luck!!!

  10. You look great! I didn't know my water had broken either. It water broke as a dribble. I thought I had lost control of my bladder. I had no pains whatsoever. Finally went to the hospital and they said my it was my water so I couldn't wait for labor to begin because I might get an infection so they induced at 9 am. Healthy baby was born at 1 pm. The pitocin was a bear. My advice is to get an epidural.

  11. i can't believe you did all that work on the closet! i'm sure your guests are going to appreciate having the space, it looks so nice and clean.

  12. This reminds me of the time I was overdue with my first daughter, crawling around in the basement running wire for the stove. Good times.

I was induced more than a week overdue for both kids. Not effaced, not dilated at all, even after some time on pitocin. They had to use a foley catheter to finally get things moving (very strange feeling but not painful). I don't know how you feel about epidurals, but I recommend one if they use pitocin. Both times I had less than 10 minutes of pushing before I had a bloody, crying, beautiful mess in my arms.

Don't worry about the details! Your doctor has been taking care of you for 9 months and will know what's best for your situation. It's why he gets paid the big bucks.

  13. I had three babies three different ways--no induction with epidural, "natural," and induction with epidural. The "natural" was by far the most painful, rough, and difficult, but I'm proud to say I made it through that at least once. The induction was very sweet and lovely (thanks to the epidural) because it allowed me to focus on the baby and not on the pain and anxiety. Whatever happens, you will have a lovely, happy child in the end.

  14. I've been hearing more and more about doctor's inducing labor and I don't understand why when there is no medical reason. If you aren't having any complications I can't see why they would induce so soon after a missed due date. 26 years ago I was born 2 weeks late. Yes my mother was induced. Other then gestational diabetes and me being a big baby I don't know of any issues she had. I was 10lbs 9oz and not delivered by c-section. I hope you can go into labor naturally. Good Luck!!!

  15. I think having the induction scheduled will definitely cause you to go into labor on your own!! When I was almost 2 weeks overdue, and he was back from vacation (grrr), my doctor finally scheduled me to be induced. I went into labor 2 days before my appt. Good luck to you- it will all be worth it!!

  16. You look fantastic! Good luck wrapping up your to-do list and with the baby stuff. I'm expecting in November and MAN, the need to re-stain our deck is driving me BONKERS. How is it that I have only 3 baby things (stroller, diaper bag and a single onesie) but I'm panicked about what we need to get done around the house for it to be *perfect*.

  17. Go eat some Indian food. This is scientific and I never had a baby yet, but sometimes you gotta bring out the big guns.

  18. isn't scientific*, obvy :)

  19. 8 days post-due-date I was induced. The first induction didn't do a thing, so i returned 12 hours later for induction #2, which caused INTENSE cramping (apparently I had a bad reaction to the drugs). The good news is the cramping got me into L&D and I then had a delivery room (I got the last one and anyone else who arrived that day and the next had to deliver in recovery rooms - phew). Induction #3 worked a bit, but it wasn't until they broke my water that things started to move. My little peanut was comfy in there. I would do it all again, in the same way, if I could turn back time. I weighed the risks and concerns of being too past due with the risks and concerns of induction and for me it was the right call. Good luck either way!

  20. Sorry to get immediately personal but some "snuggle" time with the hubby is a natural stimulant for the cervix. Give that a try and I would talk with your doctor more about the big push for the induction. Figure out their reasoning and if it's really the best decision for you.
My water broke a month early and I had to have Pitocin after I got to 10 centimeters because I never had any contractions and was fully dialated. So no matter what you prepare for odds are it'll never work out that way...
Enjoy the ride and hope your little one arrives safe and sound!

  21. Just thinking good thoughts for you and whether they induce or you go into labor, do what you need to do for yourself and Ashford. If that's an epidural, so be it, if it's natural, fine...but...whatever happens, you'll have a beautiful baby. Looking forwarding to seeing you guys after the birth!!

  22. I was laying in my sisters bed reading a book, because my husbamd is an emt and i didnt want to stay at home alone so close to my due date, and i felt...basically something like an egg shell crack in the bottom of my belly. Didnt hurt at all. Got up, went pee. I went to the living room and told my mom my pee wouldnt shut off. And then fully broke my water on her leather love seat. I was in no pain for the first part of it all, and then very intense "kill me now" pain.I was in 20hrs of labor, had 3 epidurals, and none of them worked. :( then i had an emergency c section. What matters most is he was healthy. I would have done better if both of my doctors were not on vacation at the same time. I had a random lady and med students all up in my junk. I was one week early exactly. Good luck! You will do great! :)

  23. My water broke first and then nothing happened for a day so they had to induce me. It reeeaaalllyy sucked but i think a lot of it was because i didn't know what to expect! SO, in a worst case scenario (which, trust me, mine was!) know that the contractions are gonna come quick and hard and know that it's not so much the contractions that hurt but the immense pressure. No one told me about the pressure!!!! And if the labour isnt going the way you want, tell the docs/nurses! Its your body, your birth and you can always apologize later!! Good luck!!!!
