Today

Today is my 33rd birthday.  We spent the morning fishing in Lake Geneva (which consisted of me totally NOT fishing) and it was lovely, although hot.  My boy is two weeks old (well, 15 days old), and this last week at home has flown by in a blur.  I've tried several times to get some good photos of him, but he doesn't seem to understand flailing limbs make mommy's pictures blurry.  I did get a few good ones, though!
10 days old
11 days old
13 days old - he looks very wise here.  HA!
This shot got quite a few 'likes' and comments on Facebook.  I am not sure how I captured this one, but I'm SO glad I did!  That's my little tough guy.
This is the only good pic I got of me with the baby.  My recovery from a third degree tear has not gone the way I hoped, so it's a miracle that I even wanted this picture taken.  I'm still in quite a bit of pain and have only lost 9 pounds in the two weeks since his birth.  That is a big disappointment considering I'm not eating that much and breastfeeding.  Oh well.
Shaun is home for another week, and we do have some projects we're hoping to tackle before he goes back to work.  It's been so great having him home with me, and our grass looks great because he is home to water it!  For the rest of today, I'm doing whatever I want and enjoying a birthday happy hour special in about an hour.  I promise to get back to posting regularly soon!

  1. He's so adorable! I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well yet, or lost much weight. But at least you're not pregnant anymore and have a beautiful son! I'm currently 5 days past my due date, with no induction scheduled until day 11, so I'm a bit miserable right now. Happy Birthday!

  7. squee! he is SO CUTE. Oh how I love babies. LOVE them.

Buon compleanno, and many more :-)

PS it took nine months to get where you are now--give your body a few months to get back to where you were. It will come off eventually.

  11. He is so gorgeous.

And you might not feel it, but you look great Sara. Try eating more, you need it with the BF and it will probably actually make you lose. If you're not eating a lot + BF, your body thinks it is starving.

  13. 2 weeks old!? I am SO behind!! Congratulations and he is beautiful and TOUGH! Love the photos. Hope you feel better soon... Recovery is UGH but you'll feel like your old self soon enough and you'll almost forget what it was like in the weeks after birth. Promise.

  16. I had the third degree tears as well and it took 6 weeks until i felt human again so dont be too hard on yourself...i found the salt baths really helped!! And with weight loss...that'll take some time too and look forward to month 5...that seems to be the secret weight loss month for breastfeeders around here! Seriously, i went from no weight loss to 10 pounds gone in a week! Just enjoy your little guy and let the rest take care of its self! There is definitely light at the end of the tunnel!!

  19. Happy Birthday! Don't worry about the weight; you look fab AND it starts coming off in a few weeks (I think our bodies keep the fat around for a bit to help with milk production, then it starts going).

  20. Happy birthday, and hang in there! It definitely does take awhile but it gets better. I definitely think people should warn mothers-to-be about the recover, though! Quite a shock, at least to me. You look great, even if you don't feel like it, and your little peanut is so adorable!

  23. Happy birthday! Your son is adorable and you look beautiful. My doctor warned me not to expect the weight to fall off quickly... it took 9 months to put it on.

So sorry to hear about the discomfort from your 3rd degree tear. My son is due in 8 weeks and I'm both nervous and excited.

  26. Happy Birthday!

Don't be so hard on yourself. The weight will be gone before you know it. Be patient. Put your efforts on baby and you will be fine.

Oh, did I mention how adorable he is!

  28. Can you believe how hard it is to get a good picture? SO HARD.

I LOVE him. Wow. What a cutie and such a tough guy. Henry has the same grey and white onesie. =)

I hope you are feeling back to yourself soon. Try not to get down about the weight - it will come off. And for now, just enjoy that little guy and focus on getting better.

  29. Happy Belated Birthday my dear. You are looking lovely and that boy of yours is GORGEOUS! So gorgeous! Congrats! :) I hope your recovery speeds up... I remember that being hard and I don't believe mine was third degree. Enjoy these days with him, no matter how hard they seem... before you know it he'll be taking his first steps and you'll be wishing your tiny baby back... that's what I'm doing right now! ;)

  32. HAPPY BIRTHDAY mama!! Weight loss or not, you look amazing this soon after (esp. after your birthing ordeal). If you had seen me......there's a reason why I haven't made any of my right-after-birthing pics public--yikes.

Yay 33 club! Hope you had a fabulous one!

P.S. FWIW, the weight started dropping off in the 2nd month for me.
