Happiness and clutter

So, by some miracle the roofers got the entire job done in ONE day last Thursday, and we are now in our new home!  We were able to close on Friday morning as originally planned, and I ended up driving from 6pm-midnight Thursday night to get there in time.  Stress!  Luckily, the roof is exactly what I wanted - even though they installed a different brand than the one they initially quoted.
Unfortunately, we do not have internet or cable yet at the house and I am a freak that doesn't have a smart phone, so I have not been able to update the blog, research appliances, figure out where I am, check the weather, etc.  The movers delivered all our junk last Monday and our house looks like a box factory and an episode of hoarders collided.
We got a big dose of reality that we moved into a MUCH smaller house with a lot less storage.  All the built ins in our former home (china cabinets, living room and basement bookcases, master closet dresser, the wall unit we installed, mirrored closet in guest room, shelves in Ashford's room) are no more...and all the stuff that was in them is now homeless.  We also have this impressive pile of rugs (8 of them!) in our master waiting for me to decide where to put them...and I also have a few less rooms to put them in.
Our yard is a real mess.  The storm that ruined the roof last August also destroyed every tree on our property, and a lot of the lawn....so we have made a couple trips to Home Depot for plants, grass seed, compost, soil.  We hadn't done many projects in the old house recently, so it was sort of weird to be back at one of our "minimum $100" stores.  The other one being Target, obviously.
PS - it has not escaped my attention that every photo in this post so far has Ashford in it.  That is kind of embarrassing.  So, just wanted to give you all an update and let you know there are many projects coming up.  Like the inside of our main bathroom vanity.  What in the?!

  2. Welcome to Minnesota! I think you'll like it here. Let me know if you want to sell any of your rugs (if you end up not finding space for them). I just bought an old house in St. Paul and have almost 2000sqft of hardwood....and holy efff, rugs are super spendy. I am not programmed to pay full price for stuff. Let's make a deal. ;)

  8. It's so... green? What the???

And please, don't apologize for the Ashford photos, keep them coming.

I am so happy you all have finally made it home.

I've had such a time trying to figure out where to put stuff in our new house, and realized last night that our linen closets have SUPER shallow shelves, who does that? I have to double fold all the towels, thus leaving less room for towels and ugh, #firstworldproblems

Please note that if you need to get rid of any rugs, let us all know i am sure we'd all hop on the chance to purchase them from you ;) haha

Can't wait to see this home unfold.

And don't feel bad, I've been in my new home for a month and we're STILL emptying boxes!

  12. Bahahahaha! Oh Sara, I'm betting money that whoever owned that house was a distant if not close relative of whoever used to own our house! We just revamped our guest bathroom and I'm a FIRM believer that whoever owned this house had a crooked eye and was color blind. EVERYTHING in this house is or was crooked. We removed a medicine cabinet and patched the hole in the bathroom. It was crooked, not only that, but the walls were painted this awful sherbet orange and to make it worse they painted over existing wall paper!! When I removed the medicine cabinet I noticed the wallpaper was this sparkly blue and white mess! The best part was when I removed the mirror, there was another sample of wallpaper behind it that was white with pink, green, blue, purple and yellow stripes. How they thought that went well with the sparkly crap, I have no idea. Even more so, how does one go from THAT to walking into a paint store and picking out sherbet orange thinking it would look better?! COLOR BLIND I TELL YA! Anyway, happy to read everything is going well and things are looking up. If it makes you feel any better, we just unpacked the last 3 boxes, which were books, after living here for 3 years. We had to build a built-in for it because we didn't have any room for all of our books. I'm sure after a few weeks you'll figure it all out. We've redone a few rooms in our house, but the whole inside needs a coat of paint. Just take it slow. I know being in a new house you want to quickly make it your own, but you'll become overwhelmed fast.

Here my pinterest DIY link, so you can see the ugly that I was welcomed with along with how I dealt with some of it.

PS, tried the spray in hair gel and my hair looks awesome! Thanks for taking the time to respond. :)

  13. Do you think that Boozie Susie actually moved from your last house to this one? Because that inside of the vanity? Crazy.

Love the picture of the three of you in front of the house. Beautiful family, beautiful roof. Hope you make progress on the boxes and projects. But mostly, just hope you get a little time to relax in your new home. =)

  15. Yay for finally getting into the new house! I actually took a year to unpack ALL the boxes.

So are you looking for a new job, or have you already found one?

  16. I'm so glad that it all ended up working out! I know you are happy to have that part under your belt. The rest of it will come in time. I am looking forward to you having projects to do, though.

OH, that cabinet! That is so funny.

  17. Thanks everyone!

Cassie - I think an avocado interior would be lovely, but the vanity I repainted (this doesn't show well in the pic) was actually an awful bright yellow crappily spread over a dark vanity interior, which makes it look like a green paint when in person it was just horrible. However, I do prefer interiors to be white because I'm mostly blind and need help seeing things in there. HA
