Ugly wicker stuff

I have some.  Well, probably everyone has some.  But I have quite a pile of it.  Some of it still has Hobby Lobby tags on it, talk about a big fail.
I decided to use that tall drawer unit, rather than give it to Goodwill.  It was pretty cool when my mom bought it, but has since lost it's appeal.  Don't be offended, mom....it just can't stay looking like that!  It needed a heavy dose of spray paint.  So I took it down to the dungeon.
I pulled a 'Boozie Susie' and made a very sad attempt at wiping everything down, I just didn't feel like it.  There are some painted dust bunnies inside the drawers, but if anyone is offended, I will just ask them to please stop snooping in my drawers.
One coat of Cover Stain primer later, and it was looking pretty good!  Cover Stain is a great spray for wicker, it really clings to slick and shiny surfaces.
I used Rustoleum Universal spray in White Gloss for a finish coat.  Love that stuff!
The frame was just about the most annoying thing to paint, ever.  Our entire basement now has a fine mist of white thanks to this thing and the crazy angles I had to spray in.
I cut a few more corners because this spray paint costs one million dollars and no one needs to see the back or bottom of my storage unit.  Got it, snoopers?!
So basically, the fronts look really nice.
And here she is looking cute in my closet!  Does it sort of echo the white wicker furniture that some of us girls (or our friends) had in our bedrooms as kids?  Yep.  But that is ok with me.  It's way better than the before!
Now I have somewhere to store my extra toiletries, sewing supplies (using 'sewing' very loosely) and other things I don't want to clutter up the linen closet.  Best thing is the whole makeover cost about $10 in spray paint.  Thanks, mom!

  1. It looks a million times better in the white! And I totally had white wicker furniture growing up. It was my sisters but when she went off to college I moved into her room. 2 wicker twin beds, 2 wicker night stands, wicker desk, wicker dresser, and wicker etagere (bookcasey thing). The only part of the entire ensemble that I still have are the 2 wicker armchairs because we still haven't gotten around to buying real chairs for our house.

  2. Looks fantastic!!

I definitely had white wicker furniture - a headboard, a chair and a mirror. The mirror currently resides in the guest bedroom, with a coat of black spray paint on it as the white was looking pretty rough.

  7. I, too, had white whicker furniture in my bedroom growing up. In fact, I think that same furniture is still in the now "guest bedroom", just spray painted a different color (espresso, I think). I didn't mind all the whicker, but I always got annoyed at my dresser because when I was putting on makeup/getting ready (small bathroom), my makeup would always fall off it and break/spill everywhere b/c the surface wasn't level, haha. Anyways, love how yours turned out! The white looks 10x better, it's so bright and cheery now. And 10$ storage is a pretty good deal, too!

  8. Oh I like it! After years of hating wicker, I'm not really into baskets and wicker furniture. Plus you got a lot more storage out of the whole thing. Nice work.

  11. The first thing I noticed in that last photo, are all the super cute skirts you have.

Then I noticed that they appear to be on Huggable Hangers...

We'll chalk this up to the fact that I also hate wicker, but really love a well-organized closet full of clothes that make you smile.

  12. Wow. Flashbacks.. White wicker furniture, all matching, bright floral comforter... That was my mom decorating my bedroom in high school. I forgot ALL about that room! WOW.

Definitely looks much better than brown wicker, though!

  13. Ooh, spray painting wicker! This was very ambitious of you! (Or maybe I'm just a spray painting rookie who's intimidated by it.) Well done! I can't imagine what a mess I would have made with that frame!

  15. Well done! Depending on where it was going I always love when people spray wicker black, or white (or even dark brown) in this case the white is perfect!

  16. It looks so great in the white! I know no one EVER sees the backs and bottoms of stuff, but I just cannot help myself. Which is weird, cause I'm a laaaaazzzyyyy biatch...

  17. Don't know what I love more....the white wicker or your collection of chic skirts.

Drunk Bitch Trish says "Approved" to both.
