Finished

Mostly, anyway.  Since my last post, we have seen the framed structure of our porch evolve every day.   Here is the plywood sheathing going up:
Fully picture-framed walls weren't far behind.  We now have 6-inch window sills, people!
Everything was primed inside and out, and it finally started to look finished.
And when everything was painted with a coat of satin white, I was in love!
The outside view is just what I had pictured, they did a great job.
There is more work to be done.  I have to put another coat of paint on everything
because the contractor's bid only included one coat of each.  I also have to prime and paint the window box.
And the ceiling needs paint since they moved the wall in slightly from the old one.
All of this extra painting is worth it, I am just thrilled with our new space.  I've already got bamboo blinds ordered and a ceiling fan will be on it's way soon...I can't believe this space used to be rotted and screenless!
I love the chunky new wood, thick window sills, and tall windows.  It doesn't get much better than this!  Unless my Neon would magically turn into a new F150.  That would definitely be better.

  2. It looks great Sara, I thought that leaving it open would have been wonderful but your closed in porch has been done so tastefully that it is better than I expected! Well done. xx

  3. I love it! The picture frame molding is to die for and it's going to be so great to be able to open all those windows when the weather cools off again. I love that you saved the window box, too!

  4. You know, I kind of like the flower box a little rough looking with the new space! Gives it character. But freshly painted would look great as well. The space really did come together well.

  27. Looks fantastic! We are getting ready to undertake a similar project....I have some specific questions for you if you don't mind...what brand and size are those windows? How far are they from the ground? Thanks!

  28. Catherine, the windows are Jeld-Wen aluminum storms, they were a special order size, 70x30. Once they were framed in, the glass area is 67x27 inches. They start 27 inches from the floor. Hope this helps!
