Gone

Yesterday we had 'a bit' of work done on our porch.
These nice men came and started the process of dismantling the rotted wood and old glass, all while the county was under a severe thunderstorm warning!
They were very careful with my plants, which was awesome.  We had thought the job would have to wait until Thursday due to the weather, so the fact that they fearlessly pressed on was pretty exciting.
I thought too late about saving the old glass for a project.  It's for the best, I'm sure Shaun would've tried to kill me if I had asked the crew to save them for me.
They did save the original wood window box, it was too cool to destroy.  They will put it back on with the original brackets, I love that we're saving a piece of the original structure!
When I got home from work, everything was gone and I couldn't stop staring!
It looked so awesome, I was tempted to just leave it an open patio.  Unfortunately, we are not in Florida...we need walls if we want to use the room for longer than three months. Boo!
That night, the promised storm came and the entire neighborhood was pounded with rain and littered with tree branches.   Our tornado sirens even came on!
Of course, I had to go outside and pick up the most impressive branches and ask Shaun to take my picture.  What else are you supposed to do during a tornado warning?
Buffy isn't afraid of tornados, people.

  1. OMG I totally would leave it open, it looks great! (Says the girl who lives in Ohio and knows you need walls to enjoy a space for more than a couple months.) Can't wait to see how it finally ends up Sara!

  3. Hi Sara, I have just caught up on your last few posts! Happy Birthday to you, it looks like you had a great party and your yard is looking great. The grass looks so lush. I really like the patio left open but unfortunatey when you live in colder climates it isn't realistic is it? Can't wait to see the end result. xx

  4. Wow, that is a HUGE difference. It looks cool open, but I would want to use it more than 3 months a year too :)

  5. The brick all together is an awesome look! Really looks inviting. But I understand where you are coming from. Not living in warm temps all year round makes you want to be able to use every space you have year round no matter what.

  6. I going to jump on the bandwagon and say you should leave it open. It looks so good. Why not try it for a year and then make a decision?

  7. I'm on the "leave it open" bandwagon. It even looks like it was originally left open when the home was built.

Then again, you do live in a colder climate, so I understand...

  9. That is a bunch of awesome. Ha, we would have done the same thing during the tornado warnings...photo ops and staring at things in the yard.

  17. It looks nice open like that, but I think it will look awesome if you enclose it too, and it will be so much more practical. Can't wait!

  19. I can't believe how great it looks by just taking down the walls!!! At least the weather is nice now and you can enjoy it open until you rebuild.

  22. It seriously looks SO good open. But, I get it... you need it to be useful.

I just am drooling over it. Can't wait to see it all put back together.

And, I'm glad you made it out of the tornados alive, obviously.

  23. I think it looks fabulous open, but I totally understand wanting to make it usable space. I'm sure you've already thought of a way to make it aesthetically pleasing AND usable :)

  24. Wow, it does look pretty cool as a big, open space! But there are definitely benefits to having it enclosed, too.

Watch out for those tornadoes! (Are they very common in WI?)
