Framed

On Tuesday, I was delighted to see a big Menards truck pull up to the house with all the building materials for our porch rebuild.  I know many of you thought I should leave the porch open, but we share a driveway with our neighbors.  I thought they wouldn't appreciate sitting on their patio staring at us lounging on ours, so putting up walls was the best idea.
All the materials got dropped off on the front lawn so our fabulous carpenters could get started with the framing asap.  At the end of Tuesday, we had this:
It was supposed to rain again that night, so everything was piled against the house and covered with tarps.  On Wednesday, some real progress was made, both walls were fully framed out.
By the end of Wednesday, all the rough framing was done, and all the windows and the new storm door were installed.
I think Lucius was a little bummed that he couldn't escape by running out the back door anymore.
Shaun consoled him by taking him out for a supervised outside visit.
I don't think he appreciated the gesture.
Now I just have to find a ceiling fan for the porch that doesn't offend my eyeballs.  Have a great weekend!

  1. Ohhh, an enclosed porch. Can't wait to see the final view. I'm trying to get my Hubs to agree to screening in one portion of our outside pool house- no more pesky bugs.

  2. I wish we had that kind of progress on our house in any two days! It looks great, and I can't wait to see the finished room. We bought the Waterton II (Hampton Bay) ceiling fan from Home Depot for our bedroom. It was the best-looking fan we could find for a decent pricepoint. It's absurd how expensive non-hideous fans can be!

  3. That looks great! I can't wait to see the finished product.

As for ceiling fans, these sleek, modern-ey, low profile ones are the only ones I can currently stomach. I might even be able to afford to replace my ugly eyesore ceiling fan one day. :)

  4. It's looking good! We had a hard time finding a ceiling fan for our front porch and just installed this one (http://www.lampsusa.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=64908) and it's awesome! Super quiet and looks great (none of those weird point-y edges on the blades) plus it's wet rated. Good luck with your search!

  5. Man! I wanted to hear about all about the endless staring contest with your neighbors! O well, a beautiful enclosed porch will have to do. By the way, is that the front of your home that Shaun is standing in front of? I have never seen the front of your home before.

  6. Wow! It's looking really good! It may sound silly, but I'm always most jealous of people who have indoor/outdoor spaces like this. I think they are just so nice and versatile. It's going to be a great space!

And lol at Lucius! Pets just don't appreciate how much you look out for them sometimes :)

  10. Wow I wish I could build as fast as those guys! Also how does the shared driveway work? Who shovels snow in the winter?

  11. ceiling fans ARE very offensive, I can't STAND them. When I had to get one for my art room (constant sunshine = hot room) I searched and searched and searched. It's a difficult task.

  12. Sara - funny you should mention the Acero, I already have it in my shopping cart at CSN in the stainless finish!

Kristi - Our neighbor is so awesome, he is retired and does almost all the snowblowing and shoveling! And our driveway needs to be repaved, so we get to split the cost. We really can't complain.

  14. I love that last picture! Lucius looks so disinterested.

Those walls/windows came up so fast! I guess that's the beauty of hiring the pros to come do it. :) Exciting!

  15. Anon - it is just like the old one, except its not rotting and has windows that open instead of just glass.

It is all painted now, it looks so much better than the old one! Can't wait to share it.

  18. Wow it came together so quickly! I am super jealous of your indoor/outdoor space. I really wish we had something like that in our home. But since we don't, I am just going to have to live vicariously through your reno!
