Kitchen tile

Things are moving along slowly in the kitchen.  Mostly because I am enormous and the thought of doing anything in there is quite distasteful to me, whether it's installing tile, cooking dinner, or (I'll be honest) even doing dishes....thankfully I have a wonderful cousin who just happens to be a master tiler, and he did this for us last week!
I just about cried when I came home to all the tile set after just one day.  In my pregnant state, there is just no way we could've moved this quickly.
He had to float our walls out about a quarter inch on this wall, and you can't even tell.  We would not have been able to finesse the issue like that.
And at lunch time on day 2, he had everything grouted with bright white grout - perfection!
The man is talented.
And I'm so happy that we decided to go with simple white subway tile as opposed to something colored or glass.  It looks so clean and classic.  The tile we used is Imperial Bianco Gloss 3x6 from the Tile Shop.
We love it.  Thank you so much, Jim!

Still to do in here:
Install range hood
Stain and install open shelves above microwave
Install blinds
Paint touch ups

BAH, it's never going to be done!

  4. that looks amazing ...lucky you
how are you supposed to do dishes when you probably can't get close enough to the sink ?, you'll just get a sore back , I remember , you should go put your feet up at this stage anyway...rest up you have a marathon to prepare for and I'm talking about caring for that baby you won't have much put up your feet time so do it now...and don't feel guilty

  8. Yay, it looks AWESOME!!! You guys are so close! And I hear you on feeling enormous - let me tell you, these next 3 weeks might be the end of me. :) My ankles look like they belong to an elephant - has that happened to you, or are you one of those lucky people that I secretly despise now? :)

  9. This looks SO DARN GOOD. And I love it when someone else can do it, too. We are all DIYers, but sometimes it's just nice to have it done when you get home.

And I'm really loving the white grout. Sometimes I wish I had done white grout for ours, so I'll just live vicariously through your kitchen. Also, huge fan of the tile behind the stovetop. Really cool!

  10. Oh that looks AMAZING!!! And just think - it will be all done before the baby arrives :) AND you can get "sympathy work" from all your relatives and friends who don't want you to have to deal with the stress of renovations while pregnant! Score!!

The tiles look fantastic. Seriously. I started following when your kitchen was gutted, and it seems to be moving right along now.

  18. Stunningly beautiful...so jealous!

I know you are pregnant, but you need this done before baby comes and you really have no time. You will be so glad when it is done and so work hard. The rewards are too many to count.

Oh, I mention...we need MORE posts. Too long in between them.

    Love your blog!!!

  23. MCherie, the wall color is Behr Lotus Leaf. The cabinets are just the factory finish from the manufacturer, but it is very close to 'Decorators White' by Benjamin Moore, which we used on the trim in the room.
