Living large

One of the first things we did when we got our keys at closing was sign over our first born to Home Depot rent a floor sander and get to work undoing the damage to the living room floors.  Here is a before to remind you what the room looked like when we closed:
Living room old floor
Sexy pants learned his trade as a floor refinisher quickly .  This process was as painful as watching an episode of "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here", believe me.

Living Floor Sanding 2
After countless trips for more sandpaper, agonizing over the stain color, and a couple of not-so-smooth layers of satin poly, we finally got what we were after:
Living Floor Sanding 3 Refinished Floor perfection.  After painting, painting, making artwork, shopping and more painting, we ended up with this:
Sept 09 002 Sept 09 004 Sept 09 006Yes, we still need art and other things for the walls (and furniture that fits in the space), but the big things are done.  There are also french doors leading to the front hall in the last pic, but they have been removed for an ill-fated stripping project that has ended up doing nothing but taking up space in our garage.  They will be painted white.  Again.  Sigh.

Hope you enjoyed the living room tour, next post will be all about our downstairs bath!  Let the potty humor begin!

  1. Sara,
Found your blog through YHL and have really enjoyed reading through it. The living room looks beyond awesome. My husband and I are in the process of working on our living room (and bedroom...and kitchen...and dining room....) and I love your oversized chair and ottoman. I don't mean to be rude, but where did you find them? Surpisingly, I've had trouble finding oversized/chair-and-a-halfs in general and then finding one I like. Love the rug too-very fun:)

Keep up the good-and hard-work :) and looking forward to keeping up with your blog.

  2. Christy, unfortunately this furniture was handed down to me by my mom, so I can't help you find it. It's several years old, and I'm not even sure where she got it. It's funny how the trends change, now you find less 'overstuffed' and more 'sleek!' But I think it's always more comfy to be in a big chair ;)
